How California RBS Works

  • Get your Server ID (ABC Portal): Go to abcbiz.abc.ca.gov, create your account, and pay the $3 fee to receive your 9-digit Server ID.

  • Train & pass our exam: Complete the course (self-paced) and pass the 25-question final (70%+). We immediately report your completion to ABC.
  • Take the ABC RBS exam: Log back into the ABC Portal to take the official ABC exam within 30 days of training completion.
Tip: Make sure your last name and Server ID in your LIQUORexam profile match the ABC Portal exactly to avoid delays.

Is RBS training mandatory in California?

Yes. As of July 1, 2022 (per AB 1221 & AB 82), alcohol servers and their managers at on-premises ABC-licensed locations must complete ABC-approved RBS training and pass the ABC RBS exam.

Who needs RBS training?

Servers, bartenders, managers, and others who serve or manage alcohol service at on-premises ABC-licensed businesses (restaurants, bars, tasting rooms, hotels, stadiums, etc.).

How long is the course & what is the exam?

About 2 hours, self-paced. Our final is 25 questions (70% to pass). After we report your completion, you take the official ABC RBS exam in the ABC Portal within 30 days.

What’s a Server ID and how do I get it?

Create an account in the ABC RBS Portal at abcbiz.abc.ca.gov, pay the $3 fee, and you’ll receive a 9-digit Server ID. Use that exact ID when enrolling with us.

How fast do you report training?

Immediately after you pass our final. That unlocks your ABC RBS exam in the ABC Portal.

How long is certification valid?
