You can verify your TABC certification status by visiting the TABC Certificate Inquiry page. You will need your Social Security Number and date of birth to access your record.

I lost my TABC certification card. How do I get a replacement?

You can print a new copy of your official TABC proof of certification — showing your issue date, expiration date, certificate number, status, name, and date of birth — from the TABC Certificate Inquiry page.
LIQUORexam.com submits your training results to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) within 14 days of course completion.

Are there any additional requirements to get TABC certified?

There are no extra requirements to become certified in Texas.

  • There is no minimum age to take a TABC seller/server course.

  • A prior DWI or felony does not prevent you from getting certified.
    However, an employer may choose not to hire someone based on age or criminal background.

How long is Texas TABC Seller/Server Certification valid?

Your TABC Seller/Server Certification is valid for two years from the date it is issued.

Do I need to retake the TABC course every two years to stay certified?

Yes. To stay compliant, you must complete the full TABC seller/server training course every two years.
There is no "test-out" option and no shorter recertification course available.

What happens if a seller/server sells alcohol to an intoxicated person?

Selling or serving alcohol to an intoxicated person in Texas is a criminal misdemeanor punishable by:

  • A fine between $100 and $500, and/or

  • Up to 1 year in jail.

A second violation increases the fine to between $500 and $1,000.

What happens if a seller/server sells alcohol to a minor?

Selling or serving alcohol to a minor in Texas is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by:

  • A fine of up to $4,000, and/or

  • Up to 1 year in jail.

What happens to a minor if alcohol is served or sold to them?

A minor who purchases, attempts to purchase, possesses, or consumes alcohol can face a Class C misdemeanor charge, resulting in:

  • A fine up to $500,

  • Mandatory alcohol awareness classes,

  • Community service, and

  • Driver’s license suspension.


Retailer and Employer Questions

Why should my employees complete TABC seller/server training?

Requiring TABC certification for all employees offers key advantages:

  • Employees are trained to prevent illegal sales to minors and intoxicated persons.

  • Your business may qualify for Safe Harbor protection, shielding your liquor license from administrative penalties under certain conditions.

To qualify for Safe Harbor:

  • Employees must hold a current TABC certificate.

  • Employees involved in alcohol service must be certified within 30 days of their hire date.

  • The employer must maintain written responsible alcohol service policies and ensure employees understand them.

  • The employer must not encourage law violations.

  • There must not be three or more violations in a 12-month period.

Which employees must be TABC certified?

Any employee who sells, serves, dispenses, or delivers alcoholic beverages, and anyone who manages, supervises, or directs alcohol sales must be TABC certified.

What are the consequences to a retailer if alcohol is sold to an intoxicated person?

The retailer’s liquor license or permit could be:

  • Suspended for up to 60 days, or

  • Canceled permanently.
    If the intoxicated person is involved in a fatal accident, TABC will seek cancellation of the retailer’s license.

What are the consequences to a retailer if alcohol is sold to a minor?

If alcohol is sold to a minor, or a minor is found in possession or consumption on-premises:

  • First offense: License/permit suspension up to 90 days or cancellation.

  • Second offense: Suspension up to 6 months or cancellation.

  • Third offense within 36 months: Suspension up to 12 months or cancellation.
